Comprehensive illumination for calcium imaging and beyond
The CoolLED pE-800fura combines dedicated Fura-2 excitation with eight-channel flexibility for calcium measurements, ratiometric assays, pH monitoring, optogenetics, electrophysiology and everyday fluorescence microscopy.
True Eight-Channel Ratiometric Illumination
Eight powerful LED channels provide spectral coverage from approximately 340–635 nm. The system supports popular calcium indicators, pH indicators, opsins and routine fluorophores ranging from Fura-2 through to Cy5.
Each channel can be independently selected, triggered and controlled through USB, TTL or analogue inputs. Optical filters can be installed within the supplied eight-position excitation filter holder to optimise individual LED outputs for the selected indicators and fluorophores.
The pE-800fura offers a direct LED alternative to conventional monochromator-based systems, combining high-speed wavelength switching with the stability, longevity and lower power consumption of LED illumination.

High-Speed Calcium Analysis
Ratiometric calcium measurements depend on accurate switching between paired excitation wavelengths. Individual TTL inputs provide switching in less than 7 microseconds, helping maximise the temporal accuracy of 340/380 nm Fura-2 ratio measurements.
Stable LED output helps reduce experimental noise and false positives. The improved signal-to-noise performance may also permit lower calcium-indicator concentrations, helping reduce dye toxicity and improve the viability of live samples.
Sequence Runner Automation
LED and irradiance sequences can be programmed through LightBridge or compatible imaging software and initiated using a single TTL output from a camera or other device. This combines flexible software configuration with sub-7-microsecond TTL performance.

Standard optical components may not transmit 340 nm efficiently. Auckland Scientific will confirm the correct UV-compatible light guide, collimator and microscope adaptor.

Warranty & Extended Coverage
The pE-800fura is supplied with a three-year CoolLED manufacturer’s warranty. The 340 nm LED is warranted for 3,000 accumulated operating hours.
