Professional Asbestos Analysis Kit
A complete microscopy verification and calibration kit for laboratories carrying out asbestos fibre identification and counting.
The kit combines a Walton & Beckett eyepiece graticule, an S84 Phase Contrast Test Slide, a UKAS-calibrated PS12 stage micrometer and a choice of dispersion staining objective.

G22 Walton & Beckett 3:1 Eyepiece Graticule
The G22 Walton & Beckett eyepiece graticule is designed for counting fibrous dust, including asbestos and glass fibres.
The graticule incorporates reference lines and shapes for comparing fibre dimensions and aspect ratios. Its circular counting area is divided by two diametrical lines marked in 3 µm and 5 µm units.

Important Ordering Information
The circle of the Walton & Beckett graticule must represent 100 µm at the specimen stage. Each graticule must therefore be selected or manufactured to suit the individual microscope.
Please provide:
- Microscope manufacturer and model
- Objective magnification
- Eyepiece magnification
- Required graticule-disc diameter
- Calibration factor, if known
Standard Walton & Beckett graticules are supplied with a calibration factor of 4 for use with 40× objectives. Microscopes incorporating an additional 1.25× magnification may require a calibration factor of 5. Other calibration factors can be manufactured to special order.
S84 Band 5 Phase Contrast Test Slide
The S84 Phase Contrast Test Slide provides a standard method of checking the performance and resolution of phase contrast microscopes before asbestos analysis.
Manufactured in the UK under licence from the National Physical Laboratory, the slide contains seven bands of 20 lines. The line widths range from 0.25 µm to 1.1 µm.
This is the Band 5 version. The microscope should be capable of fully resolving Band 5 and partially resolving Band 6.
Each slide is individually tested and supplied with a certificate.

PS12 UKAS-Calibrated Stage Micrometer
The PS12 is a transmitted-light stage micrometer with a 0.1 mm—100 µm—scale divided into 50 divisions of 0.002 mm, or 2 µm.
The scale is mounted in a stainless-steel slide and carries a unique engraved serial number for identification and calibration traceability.
This kit includes the PS12 with a calibration certificate issued by a UKAS-accredited laboratory.
