SCHOTT KL 1600 LED Fibre Optic Light Source for Stereo Microscopy

Powerful, flexible LED cold-light illumination for stereo microscopy, imaging and industrial inspection.

High-Performance Fibre-Optic LED Illumination

The SCHOTT KL 1600 LED is a high-performance fibre-optic light source designed for stereo microscopy and a wide range of industrial and life-science inspection applications.

Its white LED light engine provides up to 680 lm of luminous flux, delivering strong illumination while retaining the efficiency and long operating life of LED technology.

A wide range of SCHOTT fibre-optic light guides can be connected to the KL 1600 LED, allowing the same light source to support directional, ring-light, line-light, diffuse and other specialist illumination techniques.

Flexible Fibre-Optic Illumination

One of the main advantages of the KL 1600 LED is the ability to change the fibre-optic light guide to suit the specimen and required contrast method.

Gooseneck Light Guides
Directional illumination for creating shadow, texture and surface contrast.
Flexible Light Guides
Direct light into confined or difficult-to-access areas.
Fibre-Optic Ring Lights
More even incident illumination around the microscope objective.
Darkfield Ring Lights
Low-angle illumination for scratches, particles and fine surface structures.
Line Lights
Narrow linear illumination for inspection and machine-vision applications.
Diffuse Illumination
Broad, softer illumination where strong directional shadows are undesirable.
Shared SCHOTT KL Light Guide System

Compatible fibre-optic light guides for the KL 1600 LED, KL 2500 LED and KL 1500 HAL use the same general connection system.

This allows suitable light guides and accessories to be used across these KL light sources where compatibility permits.

KL 300 LED Light Guides Are Different

Most light guides designed specifically for the KL 300 LED use a different connection. Check the individual light-guide specification before ordering.

Optical Filters

The KL 1600 LED incorporates a filter slider for compatible SCHOTT optical filters.

Colour and optical filters can be used to alter illumination characteristics and help optimise visual contrast for particular specimens.

Available filter options include selected blue, red, green, yellow and halogen filters.

SCHOTT Fibre-Optic Illumination in Action

Choosing the correct fibre-optic light guide is just as important as choosing the light source. This SCHOTT video demonstrates different incident-light fibre guides and shows how illumination geometry can be matched to the specimen.

Technical Resources

SCHOTT KL brochures, datasheets, manuals and illumination guides are available through the Auckland Scientific Technical Resource Centre.

Auckland Scientific – Illumination Support

The performance of a fibre-optic system depends not only on the light source but also on selecting the correct light guide and illumination geometry.

Tell us what you are inspecting and the microscope you are using and we can help select the appropriate KL 1600 LED light guide, ring light, filters, focusing optics and mounting accessories.

Fibre-optic light guides, optical filters and accessories are supplied separately unless specifically included in the selected configuration. Product specifications are subject to manufacturer changes.
