AUC-290-I Trinocular Inverted Biological Halogen Microscope with Brightfield & Phase Contrast
Advanced inverted biological microscopy
AUC-290-I Trinocular Inverted Biological Microscope
Infinity-corrected brightfield and phase-contrast observation for living cells and tissue culture
Four-objective brightfield and phase-contrast configuration with an included 0.45× C-mount adapter and three-year Auckland Scientific microscope warranty*
The AUC-290-I is a high-level trinocular inverted biological microscope designed for observing cultured living cells, microorganisms, bacteria and tissue samples. Its infinity-corrected optical system, extra-long-working-distance condenser and spacious stage provide the performance and working clearance required for routine culture-vessel observation in medical, university, research and industrial laboratories.
The confirmed standard configuration provides brightfield observation at 40× and 400× total magnification, together with phase-contrast observation at 100× and 200×. Its trinocular camera port and included 0.45× C-mount adapter allow a compatible microscope camera to be added for image capture, video recording, documentation and measurement.

Brightfield and phase-contrast observation
Phase contrast increases the visibility of transparent, low-contrast biological structures without requiring routine staining. The included PH10× and PH20× objectives and matching fixed phase annulus plate provide convenient observation of living cells and microorganisms at 100× and 200× total magnification.
The supplied 4× and 40× long-working-distance plan objectives provide brightfield observation at 40× and 400×. Optional 10× and 20× brightfield objectives and a PH40× phase-contrast objective are available for laboratories requiring additional observation configurations.
| Supplied objective | Observation method | NA | Working distance | Total magnification* |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4× LWD infinity plan | Brightfield | 0.10 | 17.3mm | 40× |
| PH10× infinity plan phase | Phase contrast | 0.25 | 10mm | 100× |
| PH20× infinity plan phase | Phase contrast | 0.40 | 5.1mm | 200× |
| 40× LWD infinity plan | Brightfield | 0.60 | 2.1mm | 400× |
*Total magnification calculated using the supplied 10× eyepieces.
Extra-long-working-distance condenser
The ELWD condenser has a numerical aperture of 0.30 and a working distance of 72mm, providing generous clearance for suitable culture vessels. Removing the condenser increases the available working distance to approximately 150mm when required for larger vessels.
Stage and specimen support
The standard 160 × 250mm plain stage is supplied with a glass insert and a pair of 70 × 180mm auxiliary stages. Optional holders are available for Terasaki plates, 35mm and 90mm Petri dishes and 54mm slide glasses. An attachable mechanical stage with coaxial XY controls and a 120 × 78mm movement range is also available separately.
Digital imaging capability
0.45× C-mount adapter included
The AUC-290-I is supplied with a 0.45× C-mount adapter for connecting a compatible C-mount microscope camera. A suitable camera can be added for live display, image capture, video recording, documentation and measurement. The camera and imaging software are not included unless specified separately.
