To view the PDF Click Here
The AUC-645 Series is Auckland Scientific’s advanced range of research-grade inverted metallurgical microscopes, developed for demanding materials analysis, industrial research and high-value quality-control applications.
Its inverted design positions the objectives beneath the specimen, allowing large, heavy and uneven samples to be placed directly onto the stage. With a maximum sample capacity of up to 30 kg, the system is particularly well suited to steel, automotive, machinery, electronics, semiconductor and advanced-materials laboratories.
Every configuration provides brightfield, darkfield and simple polarising observation as standard. Optional DIC equipment can be added for detailed examination of small surface-height variations and low-contrast structures.
Choose from a manual system, an intelligent coded system or a fully motorised research platform.
Prices are displayed excluding VAT. Please contact Auckland Scientific for a formal quotation before ordering. Delivery, installation, commissioning and training are quoted separately according to location and requirements.

The standard objective set supports brightfield and darkfield observation across a magnification range of 50×–1,000×.
Standard objective configuration
| Objective | Optical type | Numerical aperture | Working distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5× | LWD Plan Semi-Apochromatic BF/DF | 0.15 | 20 mm |
| 10× | LWD Plan Semi-Apochromatic BF/DF | 0.30 | 11 mm |
| 20× | LWD Plan Semi-Apochromatic BF/DF | 0.45 | 3.0 mm |
| 50× | LWD Plan Apochromatic BF/DF | 0.80 | 1.0 mm |

Observation methods
Brightfield
Brightfield observation is suitable for routine examination of polished metals, alloys, microchips, wafers and other reflective specimens.
The included BF2 module provides standard brightfield illumination. An optional BF1 module is available for applications requiring reduced light intensity and additional glare control.
Darkfield
The included darkfield module highlights scratches, edges, inclusions, cracks, contamination and other surface features against a dark background.
Darkfield can reveal fine details that may be difficult to distinguish using conventional brightfield illumination alone.
Simple polarising
A reflected-light polariser and 360° rotatable analyser are included with every configuration.
Polarising observation can improve contrast and reveal direction-dependent structures in metals, minerals, crystals, powders and other anisotropic materials.
Differential interference contrast
Optional DIC equipment can provide enhanced contrast and a relief-like appearance when examining small differences in surface height.
Two optional DIC configurations are available:
- DIC for 5×, 10× and 20× objectives
- DIC for 50× and 100× objectives
DIC is not included in the standard microscope package.
Six-position observation-module turret
The integrated six-position turret allows different observation modules to be installed and selected quickly.
Standard modules include:
- BF2 brightfield module
- DF darkfield module
- Yellow colour-correction filter
- Green colour-correction filter
- Built-in blue filter
Optional modules include:
- BF1 low-intensity anti-glare brightfield module
- ND6 and ND25 neutral-density filters
- Four-band fluorescence module
A compatible 100 W HBO fluorescence light source is available as an option for the AUC-645A-I.
Köhler illumination
All three configurations use reflected Köhler illumination to provide an evenly illuminated field and controlled image contrast.
- AUC-645A-I: 12 V/100 W halogen
- AUC-645B-I: 5 W LED
- AUC-645C-I: 5 W LED
Field and aperture diaphragms allow the illumination to be adjusted to suit the specimen, objective and observation method.
Designed for large and heavy specimens
The three-layer stage provides a spacious, scratch-resistant working surface for large, heavy and irregular samples weighing up to 30 kg.
Interchangeable stage apertures and optional holders allow smaller samples, prepared specimens, culture dishes and other sample formats to be positioned securely.
