Motorised fine-focus solutions for selected Evident and Olympus upright, inverted, industrial and stereo microscopes. Configurations include the PS3H122R bolt-on drive and dedicated focus drives for selected SZX, IX81 and BX61 systems.
Configured for the exact microscope
The appropriate focus drive depends on the microscope model and focus mechanism. Auckland Scientific will confirm whether the system requires the standard PS3H122R, a dedicated SZX drive, the PS3H122OLM or another microscope-specific arrangement.
Product overview
Prior Scientific provides motorised focus mechanisms for a broad range of Evident and legacy Olympus microscopes. These systems automate the microscope’s fine-focus mechanism and can support Z-stacking, extended-focus imaging, repeatable Z positioning and compatible autofocus workflows.
For many manual microscopes, the PS3H122R provides a straightforward bolt-on upgrade. It clamps to the microscope’s focus control and drives the existing fine-focus mechanism without normally requiring the microscope body to be dismantled or inverted.
Dedicated motorised-focus products are used for selected stereo and motorised microscope platforms where the standard PS3H122R arrangement is not appropriate.
Fine-focus automation The standard PS3H122R controls the microscope’s fine-focus mechanism. The coarse-focus mechanism remains manual unless a dedicated alternative system is expressly included in the quotation.

Current compatibility information The BX51, IX81 and other systems listed above include legacy Olympus-branded microscopes. Evident and Olympus model names are retained to help customers identify the correct existing equipment.
PS3H122R bolt-on focus drive
The PS3H122R is a 200-step motorised focus drive designed to preserve the step resolution of the microscope’s existing manual fine-focus mechanism.
The drive clamps to the microscope’s focus control using the H807 adapter. For the compatible BX, IX and MX models listed above, the H122KBIX direct coupling provides a direct mechanical connection to the fine-focus drive.

Bolt-on installation Does not normally require the microscope body to be dismantled or inverted.
Anti-twist cable Cable design helps prevent twisting while the focus controls rotate.
Direct coupling H122KBIX provides a direct fine-focus connection on the listed compatible microscopes.
Evident/Olympus SZX stereo microscopes
SZX stereo microscopes use dedicated drive configurations rather than the standard PS3H122R and H807 arrangement.
SZX7, SZX9 and SZX12 Prior identifies the PS3H122SZX as the dedicated motorised-focus drive for these microscope systems.
SZX10 and SZX16 The PS3H122SZX2 uses a high-torque 200-step motor suited to the larger SZX10 and SZX16 stereo microscope systems.
SZX focus-mechanism requirement The microscope must have an appropriate fine-focus mechanism for motorisation. The stand, focus assembly and load must be confirmed before the focus drive is selected.

Components are selected separately The motorised focus drive alone may not form a complete operational system. Adapters, couplings, controllers, joysticks, cables and other equipment are included only where expressly stated in the Auckland Scientific quotation.

Software control and integration
Prior motorised-focus mechanisms are controlled through an appropriate OptiScan III or ProScan III controller. The controller provides the connection between the focus drive and compatible imaging or custom software.
Evident/Olympus software integration
Prior controllers are compatible with selected Evident and Olympus software platforms, including cellSens and PRECiV. The appropriate software edition, licensed module, controller and driver configuration may be required.
Python and custom software integration
Prior provides an SDK for integrating ProScan III and OptiScan III controllers into third-party and custom software.
Prior SDK 2.0 includes a standard C/C++ DLL and programming examples for Python, C#, C++ and MATLAB.
This allows a suitably experienced developer to create Python-based focus-control routines. Bespoke programming is not included unless expressly stated in the quotation.
Software confirmation Software compatibility depends on the focus drive, controller, firmware, operating system, software version and licensed modules. Auckland Scientific will confirm the proposed hardware and software configuration before quotation.
