PS3H122R Motorised Focus Drive for Nikon Microscopes
A bolt-on motorised fine-focus drive for selected manual Nikon microscopes. The PS3H122R provides a practical route to automated Z-axis positioning, Z-stacking, extended-focus imaging and compatible autofocus workflows.
Configured for the exact Nikon microscope
The PS3H122R is the common focus-drive motor, but the complete system requires a Nikon microscope-specific adapter and may also use an optional direct coupling. Auckland Scientific will confirm the correct components before quotation.
Product overview
Prior’s PS3H122R is a 200-step bolt-on motorised focus drive designed to automate the manual fine-focus mechanism of compatible Nikon microscopes.
The unit mounts around the microscope’s coarse-focus control and drives the fine-focus mechanism. Installation does not normally require the microscope body to be inverted or dismantled.
On compatible microscope models, an optional direct fine-focus coupling can be added. This creates a more direct mechanical connection to the fine-focus mechanism and can enhance repeatability.
Fine focus only The PS3H122R motorises the microscope’s fine-focus mechanism. The coarse-focus mechanism remains manual unless a different dedicated system is expressly included in the quotation.

Standard drive or direct coupling?
Standard bolt-on configuration The PS3H122R mounts using the appropriate microscope adapter and drives the existing fine-focus mechanism. This provides a straightforward upgrade for compatible manual microscopes.
Direct-coupled configuration On selected microscopes, a direct coupling can be added between the motor and fine-focus mechanism. This reduces reliance on the normal external fine-focus interface and can enhance repeatability.

Components are selected separately The PS3H122R motor alone is not a complete operating system. The microscope adapter, direct coupling, controller, joystick, cables and other equipment are included only where expressly stated in the Auckland Scientific quotation.

Software control and integration
Nikon NIS-Elements compatibility
Prior confirms that the PS3H122R is compatible with Nikon NIS-Elements software when the appropriate NIS-Elements package, controller, driver and licensed software components are present.
Python and custom software integration
Prior provides an SDK for integrating ProScan III and OptiScan III controllers into third-party and custom software.
Prior SDK 2.0 includes a standard C/C++ DLL and programming examples for Python, C#, C++ and MATLAB.
This allows a suitably experienced developer to create Python-based control routines for the focus drive and other compatible Prior automation components. Bespoke programming is not included unless expressly stated in the quotation.
Software confirmation Compatibility can depend on the controller, firmware, operating system, software version and licensed modules. Auckland Scientific will confirm the proposed hardware and software configuration before quotation.
