H275LMT Extended-Travel Motorised Focus Tower

High-capacity motorised vertical positioning with 145 mm travel for compatible Nikon and Evident/Olympus stereo microscopes and macroscopes.

Price on quotation

The H275LMT must be configured for the microscope, required adapter, motor controller, stage, sample dimensions and imaging application. Auckland Scientific will review the complete system and provide a tailored quotation.

Product overview

The Prior Scientific H275LMT is a large-format motorised focus tower providing 145 mm of controlled vertical travel. Instead of moving only an objective or conventional microscope stage, it supports and translates a compatible microscope optical system above the sample.

Its 25 kg load capacity allows large and complex optical assemblies to be positioned accurately, while the extended vertical travel accommodates tall, irregular or variable-height specimens that may be unsuitable for a conventional microscope stand.

For Nikon systems, the tower is compatible with the SMZ18 and SMZ25 using the appropriate Prior adapter. For Evident/Olympus systems, it supports the MVX10, SZX10 and SZX16 with the corresponding adapter.

When combined with an appropriate Prior motorised XY stage, the H275LMT can form part of a complete motorised XYZ imaging system for samples measuring up to approximately 300 × 300 mm, subject to the selected stage and installation.

145 mm vertical travel

Extended motorised Z movement for tall, irregular and variable-height samples.

25 kg load capacity

Supports large microscope bodies and complex optical assemblies above the specimen.

High-resolution movement

Published resolution of 40 nm for precise motorised vertical positioning.

Encoded option

H275LMTE includes a 0.1 µm linear encoder for enhanced long-range repeatability and closed-loop positioning.

Nikon and Evident/Olympus compatibility

This Auckland Scientific listing is specifically for the following Nikon and Evident/Olympus microscope configurations:

Manufacturer Compatible microscopes Required adapter Focus tower
Nikon SMZ18 and SMZ25 H275LSMZ H275LMT or H275LMTE
Evident/Olympus MVX10, SZX10 and SZX16 H275LMVX H275LMT or H275LMTE

Microscope adapter required

The Nikon H275LSMZ and Evident/Olympus H275LMVX microscope adapters are separate components and are not automatically included with the focus tower. The appropriate adapter will be identified in the Auckland Scientific quotation.

Motorised focus tower options

The required focus tower is selected during quotation. These options are shown for comparison and are not Shopify variants.

Model Motorised movement Encoder Recommended use
H275LMT 200-step motor with 2 mm pitch ball screw No linear encoder General motorised extended-travel focus applications
H275LMTE 200-step motor with 2 mm pitch ball screw 0.1 µm linear encoder Enhanced long-range repeatability and closed-loop positioning

Published resolution describes the commanded movement of the tower. Overall imaging performance also depends on the microscope, controller, focus strategy, optical configuration, mechanical installation and sample.

Designed for large and irregular samples

The interchangeable optical-system interface and adjustable installation geometry allow the H275LMT to be incorporated into large-format imaging systems with variable throat distance.

This can provide access to samples that cannot be accommodated on a conventional stereo microscope stand, including large manufactured components, wafers, masks, display panels and whole biological specimens.

The tower can also be configured for super-long-working-distance objectives and custom optical systems, subject to a complete mechanical and optical assessment.

Creating a complete motorised XYZ system

The H275LMT provides motorised vertical Z movement. A complete motorised XYZ installation may also include:

  • A compatible Nikon or Evident/Olympus microscope
  • The appropriate H275LSMZ or H275LMVX microscope adapter
  • A Prior motorised XY stage selected for the sample size and application
  • HH531 stage-mounting pillars where required
  • A compatible Prior OptiScan III or ProScan III controller
  • CS200XY and CS200Z joysticks where manual positioning is required
  • Appropriate sample holders and mounting hardware
  • Computer connection and compatible imaging software

Please note: the microscope, XY stage, controller, joysticks, microscope adapter, stage mount, sample holders and cables are not included unless specifically identified in the Auckland Scientific quotation.

Software and automation

The H275LMT is operated through a compatible Prior controller rather than by connecting software directly to the tower motor.

Prior states that the focus tower is compatible with imaging software that supports the relevant ProScan III controller and connected hardware. The exact controller and software combination must be confirmed for the proposed system.

Custom control may also be possible using Prior’s controller command interface and software-development resources. Where Python or other custom integration is required, Auckland Scientific will review the operating system, controller and required functions before quotation.

Typical applications

  • Semiconductor wafer inspection
  • Large industrial component inspection
  • Mask inspection
  • LCD and display inspection
  • Electronics and printed-circuit inspection
  • Lab-on-chip applications
  • High-throughput biological imaging
  • Whole-animal and live-animal imaging
  • Large or irregular specimen documentation
